Hair bows on yorkies?

We have a yorkie with shorter hair then the show yorkies, but we have seen many short hair yorkies with hair bows on the top of their head. My question is how do you get it to stay? Is there a type of band that we should use? any hints or tips will be much appreciated!

Merry Christmas!

Get little ones from Target. Not the ones that are wrapped and labeled "ouchless". Get the ones that look rubbery/like plastic. They hold better. They are in the aisle with brushes, not the accessories aisle.

The rubber bands for braces work the best. Difficult to get, but good.

I would super glue a small bow to a barret then put it in their hair.

Perhaps use the bows that clip into place?

I suppose a nail gun is out of the question

you can get some at the pet store look for the ones that attach with the velcro

Use an "ouchless" elastics, as describe by an earlier poster, and then you may tie a ribbon to the base. Be absolutely sure you are not pulling the hair around the eyes and stretching the delicate eye area. The elastic can be tight but the hair from the eye to the elastic must not be stretched tight.

don't put your dog through that trauma.

that's why dogs bite people! have you ever seen a wolf with a bow?!?

For young pups for show - we use those rubber bands for braces or those ouchless ones. However, if you don't groom every single day or if your yorkie is a big rubber (i'm sure you know what i mean if you have one), it will get tangled and the hair will break.

Those little show bows usually have those little rubber bands on the back - but we always cut them off and sew one of those little hooks (hook and eye available from any habadashery store) on the back of them and hook the hook through the rubberband.

Again these don't stay so well. Particularly on those itsy bitsy really short puppy topknots!!

I find that I prefer fabric coated rubber bands and I will use them on a daily basis and will tie a ribbon through those hair elastics.

My best friend likes to use little tiny hairclips. She'll clip one from the right going across the topknot to the left, and one from the left going across to the right so the clips form a cross.

Making show bows is really easy too.

There are bows that will clip onto really short hair. You can get them at wal-mart.

you can find special top knot bows or clips. but if your dogs head is clipped short (a #4 blade or shorter) you probably will not be able to get it to stay. you can ak your groomer to leave your dogs topknot long so that you can hold it up with bows, this should not be a problem. but remember, more hair means more maintance.
