What happens when you touch the hair on a bow for a violin?

The oil from your skin taints the hair, and makes it difficult to apply rosin. Additionally, the sound won't be as good.

What happens when you touch the hair on a bow for a violin?

A few things:

1) you get rosin on your skin

2) the oil from your skin can damage the hair on the bow

3) you could accidently break some of the hair, as they are very fragile

4) some of the hair could become loose, making it difficult to just tighten up those hairs
