Brushing my 3yr daughters hair?

My daughter has the most beutiful hair however she hates it when I brush it. I have bought the good smelling detangeling spray and tons of pretty hair ties and bows. I'm very gental and I do it as fast as I can but she just screams and screams. She generally is a great tempered child. I always have to resort to holding her down to do it. Please help??????

I know exactly what you mean. My 3 yr old has hair down below her waist. She hates for it to be brushed or washed. I have tried everything possible. I use detangler in her hair and pretend that it is magic and tell her that she is going to be a beautiful princess when I finish. That is about the best I have come up with so far. Although it only works for a few minutes and she is ready to run off.

Try letting her brush your hair and see that your not screaming.

IT HURTS!!! I remember going through that as a child. It's like torchure. If her hair is still pretty babyish, it probably tangles very easily. Like mine. Try to keep it braided most of the time so it doesn't get tangled.

Have you asked her why she screams and carries on so? At 3 years old, she should be able to articulate well enough to tell you what's wrong.

If you can't keep her hair detangled and combed, you may have to cut it all. So try and find out from your daughter what the real issue is. You may be surprised to find out that it's not that it hurts, but some other psychological fear such as she thinks the combing is cutting her hair off!

I think that she will grow out of it you might let here comb a dolls hair and fix it and also let her brush your hair may be even let her have a sucker will you are brushing it. Good luck =0)

It's the age. My granddaughter used to be the same way. Just be a gentle as you can and keep doing it at least once a day - the more you 'play' with her hair, the faster she will accept it, add barrettes, ribbons, etc. You can also have her do your hair - lots of fun!!

What if you let her "help" you by letting her hold her hand over yours while your brushing? I know my own toddler likes to do this. or if she can do it on her own let her try. maybe you can let her pick her own pretty hairbrush. Maybe something special she likes to distract her while your brushing such as a tv show, a toy or a treat.

Use really rich conditioner like Pantene Pro-V...it will keep her hair softer and easier to comb

She must have a super sensitive scalp. My daughter had that problem. I tried to let her do it herself by showing her how on my hair. She brushes her own hair now. If I tried it, she would scream but if she did it herself she was ok with it. I hope this helps. I know it's frustrating but I had to be patient with her.

all the DE-tangling sprays are is;20 % hair conditioner,80 % water, try putting in a little more conditioner in to the mix..put it in to a Dora shampoo bottle and get a wider comb and let her start combing her own hair..if you remember all those pretty bows pulled your hair so tight it would hurt your scalp..after a while...

Ask her if she would like to try to brush her hair and see how that works... Hope this helps!Good luck!!

Gee give her the brush and let her do it herself. When she has a hard time she'll let you help without crying as much.

Try brushing her hair when she's in the bath. My mom used to brush my hair when I was in the bath after she applied conditioner. She'd rinse it out and then she'd dry it a bit with a towel and brush it a bit more. My hair would still be smooth from the conditioner and wasn't at all tangled.

I dont force my daughter/. Just do it when absolutely necessary and maybe try letting her do it herself.

Unfortunately I don't think this will get any better until she starts brushing her own hair. Your only real options are to cut her hair (which you may not want to do) or just deal with it. My daughter was the same way and no matter what I did she acted like I was killing her whenever I brushed her hair (and I know that I was gentle with her).

My 3 yr old has been that way since she's had hair! Drives me crazy! Luckily, she has silky straight hair and it dries completely untangled and looks like we've styled it. BUT....it looks AWFUL while drying- but it's not worth the fighting.

In the morning I just finger style and put a barrette in. She has such long beautiful hair that I could do so much with but she won't let me. I hope she grows out of this.

maybe you should try using a pick instead of a brush...I've found that this works better for my 3 yr old..

I have the same problem with my 3 year old daughter. sorry cant help at least you know your not the only one outthere.

Brushing my 3yr daughters hair?

my two year old is the same way. i make a deal with her. she knows i have to brush her hair everyday, so i just do it while she's washing her hands, brushing her teeth, etc. we have a morning routine where she watches me do my hair, put on deoderant, lipstick, etc. i "put" deoderant on her, too and "lipstick" (i fake it, but she's still happy). then i had bought this GREAT detangler from wal mart. it's called "professional" (that's the name brand). it's really an oil that makes it so there are almost no tangles, and knots are SOOO easy to get out. then i let her wash her hands (play with the water). the deal is taht i HAVE to brush her hair, but if she sits still long enough for me to put a "hair pretty" in, she gets a cookie. i give her a really small cookie, like a chips ahoy mini bites, or ONE teddy graham. since she was 20 months old, this has worked. maybe you can try a small reward for sitting "like a big girl". the way i figure, she's having to sit still while i do something she hates... she may as well get something in return!
