Does anyone know if this christmas tale has a name? its about...continued...?

a man and woman who are both very poor but want to get eachother the perfect gift. the get desperate and on xmas eve the woman who has long beautiful hair has it cut all off and sells it so she can buy the man a bow or case for his violin. the man has seen a beautiful clip to keep the womans hair all together and sells his violin in order to buy it. on xmas eve night they exchange gifts (the woman is wearing a hat so the man cant see her hair). when she unwraps hers she sadly takes her hat off so the man can see the clip is no use. and then the man unwraps his and sadly tells her he nolonger owns a violin. in the end they dont mind cos they realise its their love for eachother which is the perfect gift.

Gift (s) of the Magi. The story I remember is the man sold his watch and the woman bought him a watch chain. The moral of the story is the sacrifice they made for each other, like the sacrifice God made by giving his Son to us.

I know the story, but I was told it with a pocket watch for the man and she buys him a chain for it. Anyway I think it's a fable, so Hans Christan Anderson would be my guess.
