It depends on the type of hair you have and how you wear the bow. I'd say a barrette on teens and adults. If you are a cheerleader and do alot of bouncing and jumping I would suggest the elastic band (without the metal piece). Get one and try it out.

I perfer barrette. Sometimes elastic bands can be harsh on your hair.

The first question you should ask yourself is how old are you? If you are over 16 ditch all barrettes with hair bows (unless they are mandated for a team or job) and buy yourself a nice embellished metal barrette, it'll suit your age much better.

If you need support for the hairdo go with an elastic band, especially those with no metal on the band so that they do not tear your hair when you put them in or out.
